Presidents Message

A message from the President of Tullamore Rugby Football Club for the 2020/21 season, Stephen Lynam.

A message from the President of Tullamore Rugby Football Club for the 2020/21 season, Stephen Lynam.

As President, I would like to give a warm welcome for the return to rugby to all our members, supporters, any visiting teams and match day officials who make the journey to Spollanstown this season following some strange and unprecedented times.

It is a fantastic honour for me to be elected as President of Tullamore Rugby Club for the 2020/2021 season and am so looking forward to representing our club in the coming season. TRFC has and will always have an incredibly special place in my heart as it is where I have met (and maybe lost ) some lifelong friends through playing underage system and progressing into the world of senior rugby. No matter whether we won or lost, it was our club that kept us together and created a sense of family. To this day it is fantastic to meet up ex-players or coaches and tell a yarn or two at the club. For these things, I am simply grateful.

Our club would not be where it is today without the hard work that has been done at grass roots level, all the way up to seniors, for both men and women. This is down to the excellent hard work which has been done and continues to be carried out by all our club staff over the years. I would like to give a special recognition for all the players, management and coaching staff of our Tullamore Tigers team who have really embraced the spirit of rugby at our club and truly made us an inclusive club.

I would like to take this opportunity thank and congratulate all our players, coaches, management, and parents of all our fielded teams. Our success over the last 10/15 years can be linked back to our Mini’s and Youths, which is a huge testament to them and should be a massive motivation to those currently in charge of our club structure and management.

For the coming year, I would like to wish our Club Captain Kevin Browne, Ladies Captain Moya Griffin, and their teams a successful in the forthcoming season. Equally I would like to wish all our players, guardians, volunteers, coaches, and management of all our teams a successful and enjoyable season.

We are entering an unchartered time with this season with the restart of rugby and I would encourage everybody to get involved with the club, the more help the less hassle.

A special word of thanks to our generous sponsors for their continued support, which is very much appreciated. I would be obliged if all our members can support them whenever and wherever possible. Without our sponsors we would be in an exceedingly difficult situation.

To all our volunteers, our club could not function without your help. We are fortunate to have a group of dedicated members who give up their time to ensure the smooth running of the club. A huge thank you to every one of you, and especially to the COVID 19 Committee and COVID 19 Officer who have got us back on track to play this wonderful game.

I look forward to welcoming you, your family, our many friends and guests to Spollanstown and I hope you all have a competitive, injury free and enjoyable season.

Stephen Lynam
